Everything Greyhound > Greyhound 911 > Anyone Have Experience With Fibroscarcoma In Cat

Posted by: dad2paisley Sep 23 2010, 04:40 PM
One of our kitties, Razz, has bee diagnosed with fibrosarcoma. It is located on her back foot. Trish and I are meeting with the vet tomorrow to talk options. I think the suggestion will be amputation but I am not comfortable with that. We amputated Annie's (greyhound) leg when she was diagnosed with osteo and we both feel that it was the wrong decision. She died a week after the surgery. I know this is a different type of cancer and in cats it can be different then in dogs so was hoping someone has had experience with this type and in a cat. Also, if we go with the amputation, what can we expect recovery wise and for any limitations she'll have? And one other request. Pray that we make the right decision and she does well with what ever treatment we decide on.

We talked with our vet today and going to go for the amputation on the back leg. The surgery will be this Monday for Razz. The vet says, that this type of surgery in cats is much easier then dogs.
So, please send special prayers for our sweet Razz on Monday that everything goes well.

The surgery went fine and Razz spent the night at the vets. Trish is calling around 11am to find out how Razz did overnight and when to pick her up.

UPDATE: 11am

Trish called and they said Razz ate the food they left her overnight. Good sign. Razz got a little run around the back room, guess it was medicine time. And they said she has no problem getting around with 3 legs. No stressing etc.

Trish will pick Razz up later today stocked with lots of pain medicine too.

Razz is home and doing fine. The other cats didn't even notice anything different. She is in our big pen with 4 of our cats and she was rubbing against me and getting lots of pets from me. She is walking very well on 3 legs. She is still on meds for awhile for any pain. wub.gif wub.gif

Shadow my first greyhound was diagnosed with Fibrosarcoma on her toe, which we had amputated and it never came back, she did die of old age and we believe OS. She fell broke her leg and the vet said that it was cancer. He could set the leg but he was very sure it would not heal. the break was so bad you could see it with the naked eye
