I think that the AR folks love it when a greyhound race track closes but they do not realize what will happen when it does.
You will have tons of greyhounds that need homes. This will flood the gh adoption groups more. You can bet more gh's will be PTS, you will have a black market on the dogs, dogs sent off for research. It will just be a nightmare for them. The the AR's will be griping about all the "clean up" they have to do.
I love it when the AR's applaud this, they don't even know what is going on in the industry, just what they may read and that information is not 100% correct.
How about all the customers who love to go to the races and see the dogs run. I will certainly miss seeing that.
Plus, all the workers at the tracks and so forth will be out of a job and be on unemployment. I hate seeing anyone out of a job. I bet you all don't know how many people run these tracks etc and do an outstanding job.
Just a few things for you to think about when you are cheering this closures.

Over the years tracks have closed for various reasons, usually only one or two at a time. A few months ago a amendment was slipped into a AG bill in Fl to end Greyhound racing, it wasn’t germane to a AG bill so the amendment was dropped. Lets look a the “Perfect Storm”, ALL the tracks in Fl close at the same time due to a small change in the law like the amendment mentioned. If one track closes 100s of Greyhound need adoption, we’ve seen that in the past. All the tracks in Fl close,,,,,,1000s of Greyhounds will need to go to adoption just from the tracks, then there are the Greyhounds on the farms around the country that will need to go to adoption. There would be some racers that could go to the remaining handful of tracks resulting in Greyhounds there needing adoption. The ripple effect will be felt in many States, not just one.

When Greyhound racing ends so will the breed of racing Greyhounds we love and cherish. Love the Greyhounds you share your life with for they may be the last of the breed.

How would we get a greyhound if all the tracks close? Greyhound puppy mills?

"How would we get a greyhound if all the tracks close?"

That's my point there won't be any, at least not any NGA GHs. The only GHs available will be from a AKC breeder. From a puppy mill ????? OH NO, NO, NO don't even think about it!!!!!!!
AKC Registration statistics show that GHs are one of the least popular breeds, Labs are the most popular breed registered with AKC. GHs are 140 of the 164 breeds listed for 2009.
Here is a link to the Greyhound Club of America which is the parent club for AKC registered GHs -GCA

I have to agree AKC GHs are not the same as NGA GHs, sad but true.

They are pretty dogs, but not the same as racers.

I like watching the AKC greyhounds during the Westminster Kennel Club Show, but like y'all said, they aren't the same as our beloved NGA hounds.
