Authorities in Florida said a 71-year-old man arrested for spray-painting on a utility pole told police the pole was the latest in a string of hundreds.

Pinellas County sheriff's deputies said Charles Ignatius Wesley, 71, of Dunedin, who was arrested on a criminal mischief charge after he allegedly was seen spray-painting "SLA" on a utility pole, told them he had painted the letters on six other poles the same day and hundreds of others during the past five years, the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times reported Wednesday.

Wesley said the letters stand for Sane Liberated Americans, his political party. He said the party will take over the country after the U.S. economy fails.

Deputies said they discovered the tag on at least 99 poles in the area.

"He's proud of his new party," sheriff's Sgt. Tom Nesto said.

Wesley was jailed in lieu of $5,000 bail, the Times said.
