Smiley & I went to Louisville Ky last weekend for their Greyhounds of Bluegrass festival. We had a pretty good time. Interestingly I sat down while Smiley slept & listened to the guest speaker Dr Couto talk about lots of the things OSU does besides bone cancer in dogs. I was really surprised because that's all most greyhound owners talk about is his research in cancer. He spoke on bruising after surgery, bone transplants, spaying/neutering, how they are researching to see if separation anxiety & DNA are related...such as the mom/dad of the pup caused the SA. Interesting.
They had lots of goodies to choose from, I bought this statue that looked like a hood ornament, some necklaces & some Fast Jack tee shirts.
My best investment was in the toe nail clipping & neck massage for Smiley. Take a look at the picture, do I need to say it got a dew claw up?

Love that picture! I wish I could have heard Dr. Couto talk. You're right Hilda, everyone talks about cancer and Dr Couto, but he does so much more. Sounded like a very interesting talk. :handclap: :handclap:

Jimmy it was really interesting. I distracted myself while he talked about bone cancer because the very first slide was of a femur bone with the tumor right at the end where Gogh's tumor was...sad memories.

But when he talked about new medication for bruising post surgery I found that very interesting, then the bone transplant was even more interesting. I knew who he was, he stopped to pet Smiley but I didn't talk to him.

I thought it was interesting that he spoke about all the research their doing in behavior issues such as SA & how it might be passed on from the parents.

Tom is that picture not just a hoot! Mary had just finished trimming Smiley's nails, I don't think he ever opened his eyes the entire time. Then she lifted his head to kiss on him & his tongue was hanging out & again, never opened his eyes. He was exhausted.

He is without a doubt the most easy going, most laid back greyhound I have ever had. And snuggles all the time!

You know the other thing I just remembered that Dr Couto talked about, strokes in dogs. He said to give them a baby aspirin as soon as you see that your dog is showing symptoms of a stroke.
A friend of mine's greyhound was showing symptoms yesterday when she got home & she gave him a 1/2 baby aspirin & he's fine.
