ORDOS CITY, China (UPI) -- Guinness World Records officials said a group of 10,267 people in China broke a 10-year-old record for the world's longest chain of human dominoes.

The officials said the group, mostly students from 12 Ordos City high schools, accomplished the feat, which involved each participant falling backward onto the legs of the next in sequence, Thursday at the Ordos Naadam Festival, Xinhua, China's state-run news agency, reported.

Wu Xiaohong, a notary public for Guinness World Records, said the human domino chain took 1 hour and 20 minutes to fall completely and the record was certified at 10:30 a.m.

"We practiced for four and a half hours each day for the last three days. Under the glaring sun, I hardly felt the guy behind me fiddle," said Li Xiaodong, the first human domino to fall.

The participants were arranged in the shape of five characters representing "Beautiful Ordos."

The previous record, 9,234 human dominoes, was set in Singapore in 2000.
