YPSILANTI, Mich. (UPI) -- Carolyn King says she had "a blast" playing in the outfield at the replay of her 1973 Little League all-star game in Michigan.

"We knew we were going to win," The 49-year-old Toledo resident told the Detroit Free Press. "It was absolutely a blast."

King may not have been the star of the softball game held on Frog Island in Ypsilanti, but it probably would not have been played had she not been at the center of a controversy over allowing girls on the field back in the 70s.

Ypsilanti lost its Little League charter when local organizers allowed King to play. The move came shortly before the all-star game and created a national controversy, the Free Press said.

About 100 spectators watched Saturday's game, which was played in a steady rain.

There was plenty of good-natured razzing about receding hairlines and pitching to girls, but the contest ended with a lot of smiles and King's side taking a narrow 15-14 victory.
