(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v398/snowy8/2111smiley.jpg)

My 1st gotcha day with Smiley will be in March, but I feel like he's been a part of my life for years. We are so comfortable with each other.
He would have made the perfect "first" greyhound for someone, but luckily I was faster at putting in my application for him....and we'll never know.
He was picked up as a stray & it was obvious someone owned him as a pet. He just knew too much about being in a house, being attentive to my needs, loving to be hugged. Obedient beyond belief. He even sits.
I got a call last night from GALT, the group I adopted him from mainly to invite me to some events in Texas, but she wanted to check & see how he's doing. I found that sincerely touching that a year later they were calling & checking to see how he was/is. Of course he was laying on my bed beside me, asleep.
Smiley has healed my heart a million times in a year. The 8 months I waited for his recovery from heartworm treatment was well worth it.

That picture was taken the day the vet called Holly the foster & told him he was heart worm negative. Ironically it was 2/16 the 1 year anniversary of Gogh going to the bridge. She took some fantastic pictures of him running & playing by himself in the snow. For eight long months he had to be leash walked everywhere....no running, no playing. So he had all this energy stored up. Luckily he's not a high energy dog...he's passed out on the futon right now with Gabby.
I just love my Smiley man.

Isn't this great? I just love it. I wish I could get it bigger & hang it over my fire place. Its just a real soothing picture watching him running in the snow, in the quiet. I wish I could've been there....
He was so funny last night. I was watching tv last night, Jack was on the pillows, Gabby got on the bed & laid next to Jack so that left the foot of the bed for Smiley. Well he wanted next to me so he stepped over Gabby & there was like thismuch room & he just sat down & moved both me & Gabby out of his way & then he laid down. I had to hang on to the bed because I had no room for both legs, I laid on my side until everyone relaxed & then I scooted Gabby over. When I woke up this morning, he was still in the same spot.

What a wonderful story and what a greyt picture. His prior owner's loss was definitely your gain. Happy early gotcha day, Smiley. :cheer:

I found those very sad pictures of Smiley the day they caught him. I have a lump in my throat right now just thinking of him even though I have him within arm's reach now. Whenever he doesn't want to go out in the heat or in the rain/snow...I hug him & tell him I'll never leave him out there alone.
I don't know if someone had him as a pet & lost him or if he was a coyote hunting dog or what. He's been trained to race, he loves hearing the horn at Southland on the computer.
GALT put out lots of fliers when he was found & put lots of ads out looking for his owner. But no one ever answered the ads.
Here are the pictures.

But to see him now...you'd never know he looked this bad. In fact, we both need to go on a diet. :blkgrey:
He looks so forelorn.

Smiley's Peds

Actually Smiley is not related. Well I don't see any Flying Penske in there, but Ethan is a pup of his.
What's your Penske's name again?

Okay now we're seeing their relations. Magic Penske has Oshkosh Racey/Unruly...those two are on both sides of Smiley's tree. Unruly is in his peds 3 times.
EZ Lord Penske, same way.
Smiley's daddy was Oshkosh Slammer who I remember racing at Southland. In fact he's still got some puppies running there.
Which is really cool, because Ethan & Smiley will be closely related.
Thurles is related to none of them, anywhere. he he he
