http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a60/dad2paisley/Icons/flowers_white.gif Very sad news to report to anyone who ever attended the Sandy Paws greyhound gathering in Jekyll Island GA.
One of the founding board members, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday June 19th of Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

Wayne Baldwin got together with several friends one day who all wanted to go to Dewey Beach for their big gathering but were unable to make the long trip. After months of planning and scheming 7 of us came up with the idea to host our own gathering and called it Sandy Paws Great Fun in the Sun.

Wayne was active for several years in the organization but had to step down due to declining health. He was a big part of Sandy Paws and still took a small part when he was able to. Unfortunately, the last two years, he was unable to attend but always looked forward to hearing the reports on how much money was raised to help Greyhound Groups.

I'm sure when he passed, there was a large group of greyhounds welcoming him to his final reward.

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a60/dad2paisley/Icons/rungrey.gif Just wanted to introduce myself and join the group! My name is Lois, I have proudly been owned by greyhounds since 1998. My brother and his girlfriend asked me one day if I wanted to go to the dog track to see the greyhounds. I didn't realize they were going to look into adopting a dog. Next thing I know I met a beautiful red brindle named Lady Marianne and fell in love.

I told the adoption center I was interested but not sure if I had the room for a large dog and to give me time to think about it. Two days later I received a call that my dog was ready! My brother Wayne and girlfriend Dayle asked me if I could drive them over to the kennel the following weekend to pick up their new baby Maya. (I had a van and they didn't) We walked in the door and was told our girls were ready. I took one look at Marianne's face and soulful eyes and said OKAY let's go.
A year later, my Mom decided she too had to have a dog, but wanted to foster first. Katsu Dragon ( Buddy) who was so shy. 3 1/2 years later I lost Marianne to cancer, I decided to wait a little while before adopting again, six months went by and I had to have a dog. Off to an adoption center where I found a little 19 month old female who had been injured at the farm. She had no name and was being called Silky or Sweetie Pie. We tried various names on her and when I said the name Katie her ears perked up, so Katie it was. I returned home and introduced her to her new brother Buddy. He was so excited to have another playmate.
Three weeks later, I see a notice in the newspaper for a free retired racer. HMMM! That really had me curious so after several phone calls, I went to take a look at a beautiful black male named Kiowa Chippewa (Blaze). Poor dog was living in a dirty back yard. After seeing his living conditions I knew he had to come home with us. We had our 3 babies living in peace and harmony with a rotten cat who ruled over them for several years until Blaze's heart gave out while at the vet. Next to go was Buddy, once again cancer reared her ugly head. Katie was our only grey for a year and then one night she passed away while in her sleep.
We decided to wait again for several months before finally saying We Need a Greyhound! We are now owned by Tebow and Alli-gator along with their cats, Jeff Gordon and Talladega. Once you are owned by one of these magnificent dogs you just have to continue right?
